Monopoly Casino

Daily PC Game Review Score: 6.5 / 10
Game Category: Action - Casino
Date: 21 Jan 2011

Monopoly Casino, a cute take on a casino game, was developed by Leaping Lizard Software and distributed by Hasbro Interactive. The game was released way back in 1999, but Monopoly Casino has truly stood the test of time for it is able to run on my Windows 7 PC without any serious problems at all.

The Casino Floor
Monopoly Casino features 9 games for you to choose from. They are - Pai Gow Poker, Keno, Roulette (you have 2 variations to choose from), Slots (choose from 19 machines), Blackjack, Craps, Money Wheel, Video Poker (choose from 12 machines), and Poker (with 4 variations - Texas Hold 'Em, Omaha Hold 'Em, 7 Card Stud, and 5 Card Draw).

This is truly value for money!

I win!
The user interface had me stumped for a while when I first start out. But once I got used to it, I felt that navigating from one area of the casino to another was a cinch. In addition, the Money Belt and Place Bet button is simple and intuitive. At least you won't feel too guilty - after all you are playing with Monopoly money.

I definitely saw Pat Sajak back there
I saw some interesting game designs and was also surprised by the way the developers handled the Monopoly and Casino crossover. You are constantly reminded about the Monopoly background: from choosing a Monopoly play piece to represent your avatar, to Monopoly themed games (see the roulette screenshot below), to the  amusing presence (and cute voice) of  Rich Uncle Pennybags.

Monopoly Roulette anyone?
The variety in the slot machines and video poker is good. While upbeat music does greet you and bid you farewell in the game, perhaps the thing that impressed me was the sound effects that I heard for the slot machines and video poker. Another complaint I have is that you don't get to hear the din of a typical casino; with no ambient sounds present, it does feel rather artificial after a while.

I got a Full House thanks to the Wild card
Who else but Hasbro - the owners of Monopoly themselves, could have come up with such a fresh take on a casino game?

I recommend this game to all who want to pass the time without having the guilt of gambling his (or her) money away.

Uhh... do I win if I didn't get a single match?
