'We Are Not Amused!'

We have just returned from a weekend in England. A good friend was getting married so the whole family went en masse to help celebrate. The wedding was lovely and went well, but I have a few things I need to off load to my lovely fellow bloggers!

As is my way, I went to download boarding passes a few hours before travelling. Depending on the airline this can vary. We had purchased these tickets 6 months before, to get the bargains you understand! During this time we have had three flight time alterations. Nothing major but gradually the return flight has been getting later and later. Much to my dismay I discovered that the return flight had changed again. Even later, meaning that we wouldn't get home until about 11 pm on Sunday night. My working men were most upset so I got onto the phone. According to my much better half it was the best impression of Queen Victoria that he had ever heard. I managed to change the flights to an earlier hour but it was when I said " And I presume we won't have to pay for that change!" that he burst out laughing. Spotting her majesty during the weekend I felt I should capture a photo in memory!

Hire cars are never a favourite. I'm sure you know what I mean. You book a car but it always states the make of the car, or 'similar'. Somehow we always seem to get the 'similar' model. This weekend's model would not have been our first choice. Perhaps I'm getting old. Too many beeping proximity alarms and a most intriguing parking brake button. You needed a degree in car manufacturing to make it work. Very annoying when you can't move because the brake is still on! The funniest story was from our neighbour. She told us that she pressed the Park button on a car her husband was driving down the M25 thinking it was air conditioning and the car started to come to a lurching halt. Her husband wasn't amused!

Despite long traffic jams, appalling lane manoeuvres and a curious traffic system in Coventry, we had a fun weekend. We stopped off in Winchester on the way back to Southampton airport and enjoyed a mooch round the city. I leave you with a few pictures from the weekend and the hope that not all my blogging friends are having a sabbatical for August. I may be writing this post to myself !
Then I definitely won't be amused! Do click on Paint Monthly if you have a moment and add your own arty links for this month.

We all had to decorate gingerbread men at the wedding meal!

A very busy Winchester main street.

Winchester Cathedral

The mill in Winchester. It used to be a youth hostel and I remember staying here many years ago with a school party. Lots of creepy crawlies if memory serves me well!
